All right, lovelies, here's what's going down:
1.) I have some Being a Grown-Up Things to do.
2.) I'm beat. Slept all weekend beat. All I want to do forever is sleep beat. Have not listened to NPR in six weeks beat.
I love being consistent. And I'm a big believer in contributing to communities of which I am part. But I also love being centered, living my life. And right now preparing five posts a week, every week, doesn't jibe with that, even if I do love you as much as turtles and melons, and almost as much as new haircuts.
So I'm going to enjoy spring in New York and go to the sea. And I'm going to eat pastries and visit turtles and do my Grown-Up Things and Find Someone to Cut My Hair, For Crying Out Loud. I will not disappear altogether. But I need to take a little nap and tend to my spirit, which is a titch confused at the moment. And when I can be, I'll be back.
In the meantime, here is what I would like to know: What do you like about First Milk? What would you like to see more of? Do you know any lovely short-hair hair-cutters in NYC? And do you know what kind of tree this pretty pink one is? It lives in my neighborhood, and the blossoms are each nearly as big as my hand. I love them as much as the sea.
Happy spring, bunnies!
Love and kisses, melons and turtles, to you.
18 maids a-milking:
Enjoy your spring, Amanda! I hope your downtime is nourishing and revitalizing. Your blog is a little bright point in my day. I just love seeing what neat little thing you've come across in your day. Also, this is kinda weird, but I like that your posts are short and sweet. Just a little nibble of something yummy. That makes me happy. :) Have fun playing with turtles...
if you're willing to get a Very Fancy Cut, mamoru at bumble and bumble is wonderful with short hair. he cut mine right before my wedding and right before my last Significant Birthday (two splurges). the recession special version of this is dramatics nyc on 57th; shine is the short hair sorceress there.
the flowers, in turn, are pink magnolias (aka frangipanis).
and first milk, lastly, is lovely to me because your tone is so clear. happy spring to you too!
I like all of it. The way you find cool sweet things and then say cool sweet things about the cool sweet things...But have a lovely break. We will miss you. Tell us when you come back.
Oh and if you come to San Francisco go to Christian at Joseph Cozza. He cut my short hair cool. And sweet.
Oh girlie, you don't want to take hair advice from me, because it's a constant drama in my life. But I like Arrojo Studio on Varick St, and I like Cheryl.
In the meantime, take care of yourself. Nap on a sunbeam, read some nice books, buy yourself flowers. It's spring! Go have fun. We will miss your sweet and funny voice.
I am pretty sure it is a Magnolia tree. :) They are blooming all over the place here.
pink magnolias. and lovely. my neighbour had one. he still does. i'm the one who moved.
being consistent is no good, if you end up burning out.
also, let us know how your nyc haircut goes. because some of us (raises hand, proudly) will be visiting soon and might want a city haircut.
I love your voice, your posts are always so fun to read. I don't comment much, but I love reading your blog, it is a bright spot in my week!
i like that when i came across your blog, it felt like finding hidden treasure. or being the first person to find the sardine.
Your blog is always one of the first ones I read. No matter what you write, it's always a breath of fresh air. It's fun to live vicariously through your adventures. Relax and enjoy yourself and don't worry about the weight of being a Really Important and Awesome Blogger, but don't disappear altogether, please...!
everything on here is so pretty. you're youthful, savvy, and lighthearted. i always read this. i wish i knew you. have a wonderful break. we'll miss you!
I like the stuff that reads like it just comes to you, and you maybe hesitate before hitting publish, but then you're brave and you share a little bit of yourself.
Mmmm, sleeeep.
I'm currently loving your musings on the mystery that is nyc. Funny buses and girls that dangle their legs out of windows...
and no pressure to post every day, lady! we're happy to read em when they arrive.
It is a pink Magnolia, as others have said. I have one here too. I always think it's so sad because it doesn't have any leaves to keep it company, just stark flowers. I enjoy hearing about the little things that you see that make you smile, mostly because when I see them (which I probably wouldn't have without you) I think of you.
I love the way you write, it shows this real sensitivity to the beauty in the world, in the smallest things. And then, you show that same beauty with gorgeous pictures and such.
Amy at Fringe Salon on Orchard st is amazing. I've been going to her for years and years and I've been growing my hair out but sometimes want to go back to short hair just because she does some seriously great stuff with the shorties.
Thanks to all of you for the encouraging words! I appreciate them more than I can say.
I'm feeling better already, and off to enjoy the lovely NY rain. Smooches
I hope that you had a lovely rest.
I adore your writing and your unique and adorable voice. It doesn't matter what you post about, every post is a lovely little breath of the freshest, loveliest air on a dull, grey city day.
Come back soon! xx
the words, the words, the words. i love the words.
