I've been reticent to post on the demise of Domino thus far, preferring instead to don thick veils and black hats and go about my business. There have been more than enough posts to go around, for one, and I just haven't many words right now; many of the right words. I do better with elegies than eulogies. As usual, however, the New York Times knows just what to say. Check out their fantastic article, here, on the closing of a "Girl World":
"Domino’s demise does not, in the end, sound a death knell for the girly aesthetic it promoted. It leaves a vacuum in the print media, to be sure, but on the Web, Ms. Angelotta, Ms. Meares, Ms. Royalty and their sisters all contribute to what Ms. Salzman, the trend spotter, would describe as a “granular” portfolio of ideas, “you know, something by, for and about them, friend-to-friend stuff,” she said. In other words, the blogs."

So much sadness due to economy driven circumstances. We are intrepid and continue to dream...
I liked having a aspirational magazine. A magazine I could pick up and say - THIS - I want my house to look like this (and it's not too far off). A magazine that made me dream my own dreams a little better.
I liked the feeling of connectedness in garnered with my web sisters, but I also liked it's physical tangible nature. That I could pick it up, save it. I liked a feeling of validation in the greater media.
As for replacement. I'm not sure. I've got blogs, but I want something more tangible, more permanent, but still making me dream better.
Am I the only one who never picked up a domino? Yikes.

nope, you're actually not east side. i too, have not. i have relied upon real simple and canada's house and home for all sort of marvelous tips. and blogs. lots of blogs.
i didn't know what i was missing. and now, having picked up the last issue to see what the fuss is all about, i want to order some backorders. actually. all of them. yipes.
